Welcome to the Farewell to Finder’s Fest geo-art, brought to you by the Forest Minions! This series celebrates weird and unusual things throughout the Sunshine State. Please do not go to the posted locations. Rather, solve the challenging quiz found at the bottom of each page, for the final location. For the letterbox caches, please leave the stamp in the cache. They are not trade items. For the discerning traveler, we’ve included the GPS coordinates for these bizarre locations, when we were able to establish them.
Bowling Ball House – Location 27.9922, -82.7009
In Safety Harbor, near Clearwater Florida, you’ll find a fairy cottage house named “Wimsy”, that the locals have dubbed “The Bowling Ball House”. This gingerbread-like cottage is the home and studio of two well-established artists, Todd Ramquist and Kiarlinda. The two artists have spent nearly twenty years creating their folk art property using mirror fragments, bottles, beads, acrylic plastics, tiles, glass, and five hundred or so bowling balls painted a rainbow of colors.
The yard is lined with bowling balls, some are stacked like minarets and there’s a large colorful pyramid of them in the middle of the yard. There’s hardly an inch of this fairyland property that has not felt the artists’ touch. The place is like an open air folk art gallery with bottle trees sprouting cobalt blue bottles to dangling mirrors to a gaily painted lizard on the wall.
