Twentse landschap


Het Twentse landschap is adembenemend mooi. Van uniek natuurgebied tot uitgestrekt veengebied. Terug in de tijd; ooit wandelden hier de mammoet, de wolharige neushoorn en het laatste reuzenhert. Sterker nog, ooit was dit gebied zee, getuige de walvis- en haaientanden die af en toe nog gevonden worden. Nu is het unieke Twentse land een bonte verzameling van bijzondere landschapselementen. Zin in bos, heide, weide, beekjes en bronnen? Twente heeft het allemaal!




The Twente landscape is breathtakingly beautiful. From unique nature reserve to extensive peat areas. Back in time; the mammoth, the woolly rhinoceros and the last giant deer even walked here. In fact, once this area was sea, witness the whale and shark teeth that are still found here today. Now the unique Twente country is a colorful collection of special landscape elements. Forest, heath, meadow, streams and springs. Twente has it all!




In de nacht van 11 op 12 september 1944 vertrok er vanaf het vliegveld Tempsford in Bedfordshire (Engeland) een Short Stirling bommenwerper richting Hoge Hexel om in het Hexelse Fleer rond de klok van twee uur ’s nachts wapens, munitie, zendapparatuur en 3 zogenaamde Engelandvaarders te droppen. Deze 3 personen (de Nederlandse Majoor Henk Brinkgreve, de Amerikaanse Majoor John Olmsted en de Ierse Sergeant John Austin) vormden het ‘Jedburgh team’, die in het bezet gebied het verzet probeerden beter te organiseren..




In the night of 11 to 12 September 1944, a Short Stirling bomber departed from Tempsford airfield in Bedfordshire (England) for Hoge Hexel to collect weapons, ammunition, radio equipment and 3 so-called England sailors to drop in Fleer in Hexel, around two o'clock in the morning. These 3 persons (the Dutch Major Henk Brinkgreve, the American Major John Olmsted and the Irish Sergeant John Austin) formed the 'Jedburgh team', who tried to organize better the resistance in the occupied area.
