Welcome to the Farewell to Finder’s Fest geo-art, brought to you by the Forest Minions! This series celebrates weird and unusual things throughout the Sunshine State. Please do not go to the posted locations. Rather, solve the challenging quiz found at the bottom of each page, for the final location. For the letterbox caches, please leave the stamp in the cache. They are not trade items. For the discerning traveler, we’ve included the GPS coordinates for these bizarre locations, when we were able to establish them.
Submerged Ghosts – Location 25.1331, -80.3993
Not far from the SCUBA diving haven of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, in Key Largo, ghost hunters can find a different way to scan the serenity of underwater life, while staying warm and dry. At the aforementioned coordinates, is an undersea lodge, where you have to put on a SCUBA suit, just to get to your bedroom, which is located at the bottom of the sea.
Key Largo is rife with hauntings, as the area was once a haven for pirates, and this submerged hotel is no exception. Visitors have reported a lone man, wearing period correct pirate garb, walking along the sea floor. Some believed this to be a prank, until they observed fish swimming through the man. Many more visitors have reported someone knocking on the side of the building, but seeing nothing there.
