There was dozens of country schools across the county ensuring that no kid had to walk more than 3 miles The Yuma County School project set out to locate and mark as many of these schools as possible Anyone wanting more information can stop into the Wray Museum The first school in the Yuma County seems to have been in this area The first school was held by Nancy Taylor in a dug out just a short distance to the south west In 1897 the area residents voted to form an actual school district that eventually became District 11 Union Ridge which ran until 1946 when it consolidated with Laird
