Debutó en el programa de televisión Tempo di danza en 1961. Luego, en 1970, se hizo famosa por el escándalo en una actuación que le llevó hasta la censura, por el mismísimo papa Pablo VI, la sensual coreografía de su Tuca Tuca.
A comienzos de los años noventa empieza a trabajar en RTVE presentando el programa Hola Raffaela en RTVE que le llevó a hacerse famosa en España también.
Conocida por sus éxitos como «Hay que venir al sur», se convirtió en un ícono de libertad, libertad sexual y de los derechos LGTBIQ+, que siempre vio en ella a una musa de la libertad y de la defensa de los derechos civiles en un periodo en el que apuntarse a esta batalla no era tan fácil como hoy. El tema Lucas, que lanzó en 1978, acabó convirtiéndose en un símbolo. Ella siempre ha defendido los mensajes avanzados de su música.
Tras 60 años de trayectoria, Carrà se ganó el cariño y la admiración del público italiano y español. Por eso, días después de su muerte se anunciaba que una famosa plaza ubicada entre los barrios de Chueca y Malasaña llevará su nombre.
La plaza fue inaugurada el 6 de julio de 2022.

She made her debut on the television programme Tempo di danza in 1961. Then, in 1970, she became famous for a scandalous performance that led to the censorship, by Pope Paul VI himself, of the sensual choreography of her Tuca Tuca.
In the early nineties she started working for RTVE, presenting the show Hola Raffaela on RTVE, which made her famous in Spain as well.
Known for her hits like "Hay que venir al sur", she became an icon of freedom, sexual freedom and LGTBIQ+ rights, who always saw in her a muse for freedom and the defence of civil rights in a period when joining this battle was not as easy as it is today. After 60 years of career, Carrà won the affection and admiration of the Italian and Spanish public. That is why, days after her death, it was announced that a famous square located between the neighbourhoods of Chueca and Malasaña will be named after her.
