Geocache Description:

Cache is NOT located on the cabin itself but it is close by. This cabin was originally built by Morton and Mary Elizabeth Sherrard Barnett in 1988. It was located on what is now Route N. In 1971 the cabin was donated to Stoddard County Historical Society. In 1972 it was disassembled and rebuilt in the Bloomfield City Park. This park is full of historical treasures, as is the whole town.

Permission to place this cache was given by the Bloomfield City Council at their regular meeting on 7/25/2022.

Park is open from sunrise to sunset daily. Please respect those hours when searching for this cache.

In 1835 a committee was appointed to select a spot for the county seat of Stoddard County.  The spot chosen was on fifty acres donated by Absalom Bailey, after holding court in a local home, a small brick courthouse was constructed along with a log jail.  In 1856, money was set aside to build a new courthouse.  Bloomfield was incorporated in 1835 and quickly became one of the most important communities west of the Mississippi River (The Bloomfield Vindicator October 26, 1977).

This cache is a small bison tube that contains a log only. BYOP. Watch for wasps as there was evidence of them there in past but not at time of placement. If there is any issue with this cache, please message the CO. Please log DNFs as well as this will trigger  a response to check it. We take pride in well maintained caches in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. We are also proud members of Semo Geocaching Organization.
