Augathella is a town often missed because the Mitchell Highway does not run through the town at all. You have to turn off the Highway to see the town.

Augathella is in the middle  of what is known as Meat Ant country.Well not really. Augathella adopted the Meat Ant as its mascot because of the local football team.

Apparently, 1n 1960s, the local  football team was rather aggressive out on the field (meat ants  are aggressive toward other ants). The football players also wore maroon jerseys and blue shorts,which matched the colors of a Meat Ants body.

Augathella now has a Meat Ant Park with a Big Meat Ant mascot.

The Big Meat Ant was installed in 2011. Created by artist Amanda Feher, the brass,copper,and steel sculpture was part of a $250,000 project to attract tourists to  Augathella. It is now the centerpiece of the Aptly named Meat Ant Park . So I could not think of a better place to have a geocaching  Event . You can get there easily-just turn into Augathella`s Main street (it is actually called Main Street) off the Highway at the service station. 

We will Meet around lunch time_   2.00 to 2-30 pm- on Saturday 1  October. BYO everything  you need for late lunch .There is plenty of room,with toilets close by . There is a coffee shop, the pub and grocery store all in the Main Street close to Meat Ant Park, so come and join me I will be at the Park for the duration of the Event or longer   (If I talk to much)
