A Letterbox contains prior to the log book, a stamp and an ink pad. These are NOT ordinary trading items and has to remain in the cache. You can stamp your own stamp book with the stamp. If you don´t have your own stamp, you can use the ink pad and put your fingerprint in the logbook of the cache.
