Early settlers moved into western Gwinnett County after the county was created in 1818. A community known as McDanielsville was formed about two miles east of Hightower Indian Trail, now the Gwinnett and Dekalb County Line.
The September 1823 term of Gwinnett County Inferior Court ordered that a road be marked leading from the Dekalb County Line by Choice's Store to Lawrenceville. This road became U.S. Hwy 29.
A Post Office and a voting precinct were established at John Choice's store at the crossroads of today's Rockbridge, Harmony Grove and U.S. Hwy 29. The Post Office had once a week service until it closed in 1849. Postmasters from 1824-1849 were Tully Choice, John Choice, William McDaniel, William Crowell, George B. Hudson, Thomas Carroll and Thomas Matthews.
