Brush Removal at Orchard Park

Saturday, April 8, 2023

noon - 3:00 p.m.

Meet at the parking lot near the posted coordinates.

What we will do: Cut, drag and stack brush from under large white oaks and along trails to create a savannah-like atmosphere near gazebo. We will use loppers, hand saws and bow saws to cut small trees and shrubs up to 2 inches in diameter.

Background: Buckthorn was removed in 2012, followed by a gradual infiltration of pioneer/volunteer trees, shrubs and buckthorn to fill the open space.

WHAT TO WEAR & BRING:
Work clothes in layers
Sturdy boots
Hat
Safety glasses
Thick gloves
Water

OPTIONAL: Pruner, lopper and/or handsaw labeled with your name

The city will provide a limited number of tools and safety glasses. All volunteers will be required to sign a city release form.

Janet Van Sloun will be our host. She is a very knowlegable employee of the City of Minnetonka and has done a great job in the past of educating the volunteers on various plants and weeds that we encounter. She strongly believes in making it an enjoyable time for the volunteers and she is always extremely appreciative of the time that we give to make the parks more beautiful.

Please log early so she has a good idea of how many tools and snacks to bring. City will be providing some snacks and a limited number of loppers and saws.
