This cache is NOT a the published coordinates. But you need to start from NEAR there!
This Mystery cache is really a MULTI with a TWIST!
Surrounding the lake in Graham Andrews Parklands is a collection of 19 different species of native Australian trees. Look , touch and smell your way around the walk, as you learn both botanical and common names as well as the European and Aboriginal uses for each species.
You journey will take you to EIGHT of these locations. You are looking for a plaque at each one.
Normally, one would be given the coordinates, then find the location where, for example, you might be asked to deduce some numbers which would be used to calculate the final cache coordinates.
In this case, though, we are reversing that situation slightly. We are giving you a description of the plaque at each location, and asking you to record its coordinates. From there, we are then asking you to calculate the final cache coordinates.
Here are your eight locations:
1 Forman's Mallee
2 Weeping Myall
3 River She-oak
4 Moreton Bay Ash
5 White Cypress Pine
6 Silverleaf Ironbark
7 Coolabah
8 Tea Tree
You are now to record the last FOUR digits of each of the South and East coordinates you collected.
We'll give you an example:
The starting coordinates are given as S26° 24.781 E 146° 14.773 . Therefore the first pair of numbers are 4781 and 4773. Record all your numbers in a similar fashion in tabular form as shown:
4781 : 4773
#### : ####
#### : ####
and so on.
In the Template below you can:
- SUM each column.
- Find the AVERAGE value for each column by dividing the sum for each column by 8.
- Write down only the whole number part of each of your two answers to step 2.
- Add 0.052 to the first number. Refer to this number as ABCD
- Subtract 0.011 frkm the second number. Refer to this number as WXYZ.
- Your FINAL coordinates will be S26 2A.BCD and E146 1W.XYZ.
- Enter your coordinates into Certitude. This is an important step which will give you extra information for locating the cache.
So there you have it.
Here is a working template for you (Remember - ignore the decimal point - just record the last 4 numbers)
South : East
X X X X : X X X X
1 _________ : __________
2 _________ : __________
3 _________ : __________
4 _________ : __________
5 _________ : __________
6 _________ : __________
7 _________ : __________
8 _________ : __________
_________ : __________ TOTAL of each column
_________ : __________ DIVIDE each by 8
_________ : __________ (RECORD WHOLE NUMBER PART ONLY - e.g. 1234 not 1234.98)
+ 0.052 : - 0.011 Add/Subtract these numbers as indicated
_________ : _________ These are your ABCD and WXYZ
Thus these are the coordinates you enter into Certitude: S26 2 and E146 1
Enter your calculated coordinates into Certitude:

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
