Geocache Description:

NASA commissioned six space shuttles under its Space Shuttle Program fleet:

the Enterprise, Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour.

Endeavour (OV-105)

After the devastating loss of Challenger in 1986, the United States Congress approved the construction of Endeavour in 198.  Endeavour was the last operational orbiters built for the NASA Space Shuttle Program. Assembly was completed in July 1990, and the new orbiter was rolled out in April 1991. It was delivered by Rockwell International Space Transportation Systems Division in May 1991 and first launched a year later, in May 1992, on STS-49.  It successfully completed 25 missions. It completed the final mission STS-134 and landed safely for the last time in May 2011.  STS-134 was to be the last and final flight of the space program until an unexpected authorization approved STS-135.

Today, Endeavour is currently housed in a temporary structure, the Samuel Oschin Pavilion at the California Science Center, located in Exposition Park in South Los Angeles about two miles south of Downtown Los Angeles.
