Oaky-dokey is a series of caches around part of Shire Brook Valley, celebrating our most iconic native tree. There is a bonus cache at the end, so make sure you get the information from the logbooks. The series is 2.5 miles if you start from the nature reserve car park. There are some slopes and uneven ground, but generally the paths are in decent condition.
Oak fact. Male and female flowers grow on the same tree, but normally two different trees are needed for fruiting. Male flowers grow in April/May in long, dangling bunches and release their pollen into the air. The female flowers are small reddish buds between the branches and leaves.
There is a small stream to cross to get to GZ, but it's not very difficult.
