Day 0. Saint Jean Pied de Port. Camino Frances.
In September and October of 2021, the two senior members of bergmannfamily went to Spain to walk the Camino de Santiago, specifically the Camino Frances and the Camino Fisterra. The Camino is an ancient Christian pilgrimage route that leads the pilgrim to the Cathedral of St. James in Santiago de Compostela, in northwestern Spain.
We spent 48 days walking and touring on our route from Saint Jean Pied de Port, in the French Pyrenees, to the lighthouse of Fisterra, in Galicia, Spain. We covered a total of 1210 km on foot. Five of the days were ‘tourist days’ on which we officially did not have to walk to a new destination, but it seemed we walked just as many kilometres touring cities, castles and cathedrals on those days off as we did on our days on. Our shortest day was 10 km, and our longest was 34 km.
The names of the caches for this powertrail refer to the day number of our walking journey, and the name of the community along the Camino where we stopped for the night.
Sept. 10. Our first night in Europe. Jet lagged. Flew from Winnipeg to Toronto to Paris to Biarritz, then walked to the train station, and then took two trains up to. . . St. Jean Pied de Port, France.
A great big thanks to Yakherder (Mr. and Mrs.) for all their information to help us in our preparation for the trip.
Thanks also to devildawg for the glucometer test strip containers, and to Photo Central for all of the film canisters.
Tall rubber boots are likely required for most of the caches.
