Well known landmark. These Triangulation Stations were setup, all over the world, to aid in the mapping of the surrounding area. There are three metal markers set in the top of the knoll. Using these three permanent points surveyors are able to locate and verify other points that can be seen. They triangulate on these other points and hence create a topographic or just a plain map.
There is an elevation gain up a trail on the south/west end/side of The Knoll, as it is known locally. The hike is a steady uphill, fortunately not both ways, to the cache. The slope is typical for such geological occurrences such as these.
