Stealth Alert..!!! Stealth Alert..!!! Stealth Alert..!!!
The Vaughan Creek Covered Bridge is a link between St. Martins and Fundy Trail Parkway.
The Vaughan Creek Covered Bridge Replacement Project helped construct a new wooden two-lane covered bridge on the same alignment as the original bridge. The new bridge is designed to accommodate larger vehicles, two lanes of traffic, and a pedestrian passageway.
The new bridge provides the residents of St. Martins and visitors to the community with an improved transportation link while preserving an important piece of the region’s heritage. Construction on the new bridge began in the fall of 2021 and is now open to traffic since the end of summer 2022.
The bridge is constructed using a Queens Post Truss system. Built off-site, it was transported in pieces and erected using stainless steel gussets. The frame is glulam Douglas Fir; the siding is Hemlock from the Norton area, and the roof is covered in Cedar Shakes, split locally. The bridge has a 60-ton capacity and a predicted lifespan of 75 years. The fascia of the old bridge is to be erected. The front façade of the original Vaughan Creek Covered Bridge will be preserved as a monument at the entrance to a park next to the Hardscrabble Covered Bridge nearby.
Congrats to reh2 for {FTF}..!
