Geocache Description:

This cache placed with permission from the local land owners. Please respect all posted signs.

Bynum reservoir was built around 1927 before modern machinery using horses and physical man power. A small town was built nearby for the workers which was later moved after the dam was completed to modern day Bynum. All the rocks used for the dam were collected by hand in the surrounding area. Take a look around and you'll see many potholes where rocks were removed.

Near ground zero you will find a campground that is maintained by Montana Fish & Wildlife. The land was graciously donated by the Stott family who owns most of the land surrounding the reservoir.

Campground Rules

  • Camp in designated sites only. 14 day limit.
  • Discharge of firearms, weapons, and fireworks are prohibited
  • Fires permitted in designated grates only
  • Respect adjacent private property
  • Vehicles restricted to roads and parking areas
