Jean Jacques Blanchard was a French tailor who settled among the Shawnee Indians along the river in the 1700s. He had married a Shawnee woman and they had seven children. Not much is known about him. He had given his name to the river, Blanchard (in Hardin County) and Mount Blanchard.
