The Kennebec-Chaudiere Heritage Corridor runs from Popham State Park, where the Kennebec River empties into the Gulf of Maine, to the city of Quebec on the Saint Laurence Seaway. It also extends for 16 miles on either side of Route 201. The corridor has been used since ancient times for indigenous peoples as a trade route, and as Maine was settled, people used the Kennebec River to travel into the interior of Maine. The two rivers are separated by the highlands north of Jackman to the Canadian border. We have set out some caches along route 201 starting in Moscow and ending just south of Parlin Pond. Later, we may set out some others. Most are small containers in the usual places.
There is a lot of traffic along this road, and there are many logging trucks during the week. Each stop has a spot to pull over. Make sure you are entirely off the road. On weekends, the logging trucks are gone, but there are still many vacationers, both in- and out-of-state travelers, and those from Quebec. They tend to navigate the road at a high rate of speed. Please be aware of your surroundings.I hope you enjoy the scenery on your trip. BYOP!
