Metsovo is a lively and touristic village with a lot of hidden gems. The central square and the central road host a lot of tavernas, cafees and shops. Our personal favorites are off the central square: the tavernas Apokentro, to Koutouki tou Nikola and to Archontiko, and the cafees Galaxias and Metsovorama.
Metsovo is famous for its cheeses, f.i. the Metsovone smoked cheese which is lovely to eat as it is or in various dishes. The Katogi Averoff is an excellent wine house, situated in the village.
You’ll also find a couple of wonderfull churches and monasteries. Next to the central square is the Agia Paraskevi church in a small park. In the south and below the village is the old Agios Nikolaos monastery with the unique icon of the Virgin Mary who breastfeeds Jesus; this monastery is only to be reached on foot by a path along the cemetery. In the east is the monastery of the Virgin Mary, Panagia. You may go there by car although the streets are narrow and steep.
All in all this village is very worthwile to visit. The cache is in the front yard of our favourite hotel owned by our friend Kaliopi. From there you have a lovely view across the valley to the Grand Forest Metsovo hotel, and you are close to the square. Kaliopi agreed with the cache and welcomes you whether you stay in the hotel or not.
The cache contains a logbook, a pencil and a trinket for the First To Find.
==> (9/8/2023) I've been informed that the paper is wet because Kaliopi not only likes weeds, but also waters them abundantly... As soon as I can I'll replace the paper and make the container more waterproof. For the moment please make a picture to log your find. Thanks for the cooperation!!
