Viva Cuba, a local beautification group, started the mural project in 2001. To date, 14 commissioned outdoor murals can be seen along route 66. In fact, the town earned the moniker, Route 66 Mural City from the Missouri Legislature. There are countless other murals in the town's local businesses, churches, and eateries.
The first mural in the series honors Cuba's first bank President, AJ Barnett. He served as a cashier, then later as President, for 39 years. He also served as mayor of the town of Cuba for 10 years. The mural shows AJ cranking his Model T Ford in front of the bank he so dearly loved.
Parking is available in front of Mural #1 and enjoy a stroll on this street. There are four other murals farther down the street and more around every corner. Well, heck, you might as well make yourself at home and go around the block. You'll find the mural info you seek.
Murals are available from sunrise to sunset every day of the week. The mural exhibits are free to the public.
