Geocache Description:

A famous study looked at how colors are named in languages around the world.
The researchers noticed that "color names are easily translatable between different languages".
Then thought that "color vocabulary" might have a common structure among the languages of the world, and investigated the AB languages.
As a result, found the following

1. Every languages has words for "white" and "black".
2. Languages with three color words also have a word for "red".
3. Languages with four color words also have a word either "green" or "yellow".
4. Languages with five color words also has words both "green" and "yellow".
5. Languages with six color words also have a word for "blue".
6. Languages with seven color words also have a word for "brown".
7. Languages with eight or more color words also have words for "purple," "pink," "orange," "gray," and combinations of these words.

The results of this research, which found that despite the diversity of the world's languages, there is a common structure for color names, are considered to be a landmark.
Although it has been CD years since its publication, it is still a frequently cited study.
In this study, Japanese belongs to the "E or more" group, and the basic color names are white, black, red, green, yellow, blue, brown, purple, peach, orange, and gray/rat.
