I always drive past this statue wondering what this statue was for. One day I went for a walk to see if there was anything about it. There below the statue it had “In Memory of Ashley Philips Forever in our heart”. I decided to research who this was as the dates were April 8, 1990 - June 17, 2006.
On June 17, 2006 Ashley Philips was playing in Clearwater and died after being hit by a car (according to news articles it was an accident). She was playing with her best friend during the time of the accident.
Why is the monument for a young teen who got killed in Clearwater located in oldsmar? Ashley was the granddaughter of the mayor at that time, Mayor Jerry Beverland.
Ashley was to go to Washington, D.C., in July to be a page for Cong. Mike Bilirakis.
Ashley was an honor student with a 4.25 grade point average at Tarpon Springs High School, Philips was ambitious. She planned to be a veterinarian, a lawyer, a photographer and a writer.
