Seng Kang means “prosperous harbour” in Chinese. The area was formerly known as Kangkar (or GangJiao) meaning “foot of the port” since it once was the location of a fishing port found along Sungei Serangoon. Since its early days as a fishing village, Sengkang has undergone rapid development over the years. It was the first satellite town to have its major public transport amenities built in tandem with the main public housing development.
From road names to built fixtures, many artefacts in Seng Kang remind us of its harbour history. But could there be an "aquarium" in Seng Kang?
