Dr Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd

His parents moved to South Africa when he was 3 months old.
6th Prime Minister of South Africa.
1958 – 1961 Prime Minister of union of South Africa
1961–1966 Prime Minister of the Republic of South Africa. Killed in assassination knife attack by Dimitri Stafendas. It was the 2nd attack on his life, 1st was in 1960 when he was shot by David Pratt.
Several statues of Dr Verwoerd were erected in SA, probably the Prime Minister of which most images were made. He was very much loved and his death was a great shock.
His statues were dismantled and moved after the 1994 General Election in SA. Orania boasts a large collection of sculptures, busts and artifacts, even a Verwoerd museum and Verwoerdhuis where his widow lived from 1992 to 2000. Here his legacy is preserved.
