Geocache Description:

Here lies the cut remains of a walnut tree, and a cache to remember why you see all these stumps with odd colored midsections.

Corning has a history of agriculture with orchards. For some trees to thrive and produce in this area they require an extra step in the tree growing process, grafting the desirable type of tree to a hardier root system of another. In this case a black walnut.  This helped with pests and making them more resistant to drought.

In some cases northern Californias soil is too acidic for some trees to grow properly and grafting is used as a way around that.

Cache has 2 special pens. one to stay, and one to go to the FTF.
