This pub is located on the edge of the village of Writtle, just outside the Chelmsford boundary.
The building was a granary for the nearby farm in the early 1800's, but has been a pub since around 1850.
It was, in the early 1900's, one of the 37 pubs supplied by, the now long defunct, Writtle Brewery Company, and was a stopping off point on the main Chelmsford to Bishop's Stortford road.
The building itself, is now on the Chelmsford City Council register of Heritage Buildings in Writtle.
