On the First day of Christmas my True love gave to me... a partridge in a pear tree.
The first version of the song was first coined in 1780. At this time it was only a chant repeated by people during the Christmas season. One popular theory is that this song once had a secret code used by Catholics. This chant is claimed to have been used to help children remember the biblical teachings. A partridge in a pear tree is the only bird who is willing to die for it's young, this was said to represent Jesus Christ.
