國立傳統藝術中心（以下簡稱傳藝中心）原成立於民國91年1月，主要職掌除了負責統籌規劃全國傳統藝術之維護、調查、研究、保存、傳承與發展等業務外，為導入民間的活力、人力與物力，將屬於公共服務性質及不涉及公權力之設施委託民間專業經營，以拓展傳統藝能的影響層面，因此傳藝中心之組織定位係以「政府機構」為主，園區部分設施及推廣業務「委託民營」為輔，雙軌並行。國立傳統藝術中心包含傳藝宜蘭園區、臺灣戲曲中心、高雄傳藝園區，打造傳統藝術育成平台，建構更完整的傳統藝術體驗場域，並使「國光劇團」、「臺灣豫劇團」及「臺灣國樂團」等三個國家專業劇（樂）團名揚海內外，成為「臺灣之光」。其中臺灣戲曲中心座落於臺北市士林區，鄰近捷運芝山站。建築師姚仁喜秉持「與自然共生」的建築美學，以「一桌二椅」作為整體發想，將戲曲藝術的寫意表演手法巧妙鑲入建築設計中。營運定位致力策辦高品質傳統表演藝術演出，透過節目製作達成維護傳統經典、銜接當代創意、探索未來趨勢目標，永續臺灣傳統表演藝術發展。扶植傳統表演藝術創作暨表演人才，傳承戲曲美學基因；並提供劇場專業設施及前後臺服務，與民間創作者共享藝文資源。積極規劃教育推廣活動，促進傳統表演藝術欣賞之扎根及普及，開拓觀眾群。 臺灣戲曲中心設有大表演廳、小表演廳、多功能廳、戶外廣場、中小型音樂練習室、臺音資料館以及其他空間，供各式藝文活動及演出、排練使用。

Founded in January 2000, the National Center for Traditional Arts (NCFTA) originally operated as an affiliate of the Council for Cultural Affairs (currently the Ministry of Culture).The NCFTA is tasked with the promotion, research, preservation and development of traditional Chinese performing arts. To achieve these goals, NCFTA utilizes its position as a "government agency" for public-private collaboration for its public service aspects. The NCFTA comprises Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center and two performing arts parks based in Yilan and Kaohsiung. As an incubator for traditional Chinese performing arts, this institution seeks to offer an enriching theatre going experience and to promote some of the best Taiwanese performing groups to the world, including the GuoGuang Opera Company, the Taiwan BanZi Opera Company, and the National Chinese Orchestra. Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center, an affiliate of NCFTA, is located in Shihlin, Taipei, adjacent to the MRT Zhishan Station. The architecture of the Center fully embodies the philosophy of coexisting with nature. Inspired by the idea of "a table and two chairs," the architect Kris Yao masterfully blends the spontaneous expression of Chinese performing arts into the modern aesthetics of the building.To plan and hold high-quality traditional opera performances, and to preserve the classics, access contemporary creative ideas and explore future trends through all manner of theatrical productions, helping to attain the goal of sustaining Taiwanese traditional performing arts.To cultivate talents who are able to perform and create traditional performing arts and to pass down the aesthetic conventions of traditional operas; at the same time, ensuring that, professional theatre facilities, front and backstage services, and other artistic and cultural resources are shared and accessible to non-governmental or private creators and artists.To organize and plan educational promotion activities which aim to popularize the traditional performing arts and enable them to take root in our life and reach out to touch ever more audiences.In the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center, there are the Main Theatre, Experimental Theatre, Multi Halls, Plaza, medium & small rehearsal rooms, Taiwan Music Institute, and other spaces for all kinds of artistic and cultural activities to facilitate, perform, and rehearse.
