Geocache Description:

Welcome to Bannockburn Tract. This tract is part of Bannockburn to the north making it one of the longest woodland corridors in Huron County running over 15 kms. along the Bannockburn and Bayfield rivers. Featuring open water, wetlands, upland forest, meadows and watercourses, making it a home for numerous wildlife and plant species. Making the property available for hiking and nature appreciation, even Geocaching. Please follow the trails and blazes. This part of the tract was purchased by the county in 1953 and was known as the Varna Pits then. It had been dug out for the sand for winter use on the county roads, which in turn had created the pond that is here now. Prior to that it was owned by a local families in the upland forest area to east for making Maple syrup for over a hundred years. There are still some relics of that time of the sugar distillery and wooden culvert in order to try and drain water away. Caches here are located along the trail and shouldn't take much to get too.
