門司港駅は、JR九州鹿児島本線の起点駅です。関門トンネルが開通するまで九州の鉄道の玄関口であり、対岸の下関駅との間に就航した関門連絡船との連絡中継駅として賑わいました。駅舎は重要文化財に指定されており、現役の駅舎で重要文化財指定を受けているのは門司港と東京駅丸の内駅舎のみとなっています。
門司港には、明治から昭和初期にかけて建築された、趣のある建物が今でも残っています。行政と民間の協力のもと、1995年に『門司港レトロ』として生まれ変わり、今では年間200万人以上の人が訪れる観光地として、新たな歴史を歩んでいます。

Mojiko Station is the starting point of the JR Kyushu Kagoshima Main Line. Until the opening of the Kanmon Tunnel, it was the gateway to Kyushu's railroad system, and was a busy relay station for the Kanmon Liaison Boat that operated between the station and Shimonoseki Station on the opposite shore. The station building is designated as an Important Cultural Property, and Mojiko and Tokyo Station's Marunouchi Station Building are the only two active station buildings that have been designated as Important Cultural Properties.
Mojiko still retains its quaint buildings constructed from the Meiji period to the early Showa period. With the cooperation of the local government and private sector, Mojiko was reborn as Mojiko Retro in 1995, and now has a new history as a tourist destination visited by more than 2 million people a year.
If you go to Mojiko, "Yaki Curry" is the best choice for lunch. Enjoy the spicy curry with melted cheese and half-boiled egg.
