Cmentarz założyli Rosjanie pod koniec XIX wieku. W latach 1914–1918 był nekropolią, na terenie której Niemcy grzebali żołnierzy wszystkich armii, w tym ok. pięćdziesięciu swoich, którzy zmarli z ran w płockich szpitalach po bitwie przasnyskiej. Z tego okresu zachował się częściowo zniszczony pomnik z białego marmuru wykonany właśnie przez Niemców. W pobliżu bramy głównej znajduje się zaś zbiorowa mogiła, w której złożono prochy poległych obrońców Płocka z 1920 r. Na pamiątkowej płycie znajduje się napis: „Bohaterom poległym za wolność Ojczyzny – 18 VIII 20”.
Dużą wartość artystyczną przedstawiają groby oficerów carskich, w tym trzech generałów, kilku pułkowników i oficerów, wykonane z granitu bądź żeliwa i zachowane w całkiem dobrym stanie. W najstarszym z oznaczonych grobów znajdują się prochy wachmistrza Pułku Ukraińskiego w Płocku Skubajewa, zmarłego w 1902 r. W wielu grobach spoczywają prochy żołnierzy i oficerów 4 PSK i 8 PAL, jak również żołnierzy z innych jednostek, którzy polegli w walkach 1939 r.

The cemetery was established by the Russians at the end of the 19th century. In the years 1914–1918 it was a necropolis where the Germans buried soldiers of all armies, including about fifty of their own, who died of wounds in Płock hospitals after the Battle of Przasnysz. A partially destroyed white marble monument made by the Germans has survived from this period. Near the main gate there is a mass grave containing the ashes of the fallen defenders of Płock from 1920. The inscription on the commemorative plaque reads as follows: "To the heroes who died for the freedom of the Homeland – 18 VIII 20”.
The graves of tsarist officers, including three generals, a few colonels and officers, are of great artistic value. They are made of granite or cast iron and preserved in quite good condition.The oldest of the marked graves is the final resting place of the ashes of the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Regiment in Płock, Skubayev, who died in 1902. Many graves contain the ashes of soldiers and officers of various Polish units who died in the fights in 1939.
