Geocache Description:

ENGLISH:

Description: The Mannlgrat is the connecting ridge on the west side of Hoher Göll (2522m) in the Berchtesgadener Alps between the Kehlstein and the Gölleiten on the Hoher Göll. The tour starts at the Kehlsteinhaus. You can get to the Kehlsteinhaus, which is steeped in history, by bus (line 849), for which a fee is charged. The road to Kehlsteinhaus is closed to individual traffic. The path from the upper bus stop to the Kehlsteinhaus leads through a tunnel to a magnificent, brass-clad elevator that quickly takes you 124 m up to the innermost part of the Kehlsteinhaus.

From the Kehlsteinhaus a path leads to the via ferrata entrance, which can be found at N 47° 36.460 E 013° 03.015. The Mannlgrat leads in steady ups and downs and some crisp, exposed and partly not wire-rope-secured places in a day tour to the summit of the Hoher Göll (2522 m). Very imposing rock formations, gigantic deep and wide views you get to see.

If you do not want to hike to the summit of the Hoher Göll, you can already descend to the Purtscheller Haus beforehand at about 2245 m via the challenging Salzburger Steig / Schustersteig. Here, too, there are not always wire rope protections.  Ideally, park a second car at N47° 37.065 E13° 04.700 to return to the Obersalzberg parking lot. If this is not the case, the return journey can be made by car stop.

Please inform yourself on the Internet about the different possible ascent and descent variants and choose the most suitable one for you!

SHORT INFO: Data according to bergsteigen.com (rather tight)

  • From Kehlsteinhaus to the start of the climb: 20 min
  • Altitude meters in the via ferrata: 550 Hm / 2:30 hours
  • Altitude meters from Kehlsteinhaus to Hoher Göll (2522m): 750 Hm / 4:50 hours

  • From Purtschellerhaus to Purtschellerstraße (N 47° 37.066 E 13° 04.700): 1 hour

Alternatively, the Mannlgrat can also be climbed in the opposite direction. You can climb up to the cache and then turn back the same way to the Kehlsteinhaus.

Sufficient liquid must be taken with you - there are no water sources!

The cache is located in a small rock roof, in a non-wire rope insured place, please orientate yourself on the spoiler image! Cache is located at 1975 m above sea level.
