SK: Zásobovací tunel na Vyšných Hágoch je v nadmorskej výške 1170 m.n.m. najvyššie položeným tunelom na Slovensku.

Tento tunel vznikol počas stavby Masarykovho sanatória pre pľúcne choroby, dnes známeho ako NUTPCHaHCH. Najprestížnejšie slovenské pľúcne liečebné zariadenie potvrdilo svoju nezastupiteľnú úlohu v slovenskom zdravotníctve aj v časoch nedávnej pandémie kedy sa práve tu podarilo zachrániť život mnohým pacientom, na ktorých liečbu si iné zariadenia netrúfli. V posledných rokoch sa tu úspešne vykonali pozoruhodné operácie mimotelového obehu.

Tunel zásoboval obrovské sanatórium -  v tom čase najväčšiu budovu v Československu - potravinami a uhlím. Dômyselné riešenie umožňovalo vykládku surovín priamo v kuchyni sanatória alebo v prípade uhlia automatizovanou vykládkou v protiľahlej kotolni. 

Vyšné Hágy si pamätajú zimy, kedy bola jediná možná forma zásobovania celej osady vlečkou do sanatória - toho času domácimi nazývaného "ústav". Keď napadlo toľko snehu, že sa na Hágy nedostali osobné ani nákladné vozidlá bolo zásobovanie po železnici cez zásobovací tunel jediným spojením s okolitým svetom.

Tunel je dnes národnou kultúrnou pamiatkou a je v prekvapivo dobrom stave. Slúži už síce len na vyvážanie odpadu, no určite stojí za to pristaviť sa pri ńom pri vašej návšteve Tatier. Pretože Tatry nesĺúžia len na rekreáciu, ale aj ako významné liečebné miesto a sú domovom tisícov lokálnych obyvateľov - Tatrancov.

This tunnel was created during the construction of the Masaryk sanatorium for lung diseases, today known as NUTPCHaHCH. The most prestigious Slovak lung treatment facility has confirmed its irreplaceable role in the Slovak healthcare system even during the recent pandemic, when it managed to save the lives of many patients whom other facilities did not dare to treat. Remarkable extracorporeal bypass surgeries have been successfully performed here in recent years.

The tunnel supplied the huge sanatorium - at that time the largest building in Czechoslovakia - with food and coal. The ingenious solution made it possible to unload raw materials directly in the kitchen of the sanatorium or, in the case of coal, by automated unloading in the opposite boiler room.

Vyšné Hágy remember the winters when the only possible form of supplying the entire settlement was via a siding to the sanatorium - at that time called "institution" by the locals. When so much snow fell that neither cars nor trucks could reach Hágy, the supply tunnel was the only connection to the outside world.

Today, the tunnel is a national cultural monument and is in surprisingly good condition. Although it is only used for removing waste, it is definitely worth stopping by during your visit to the Tatras. Because the Tatras are not only used for recreation, but also as an important healing place and are home to thousands of local residents - the Tatra people.
