L'industrializzazione a San Giovanni Lupatoto
Rispetto agli altri comuni dell’intera provincia di Verona, il territorio lupatotino ha mostrato una dinamicità unica nella sua capacità di industrializzarsi. Nonostante sia uno dei comuni più piccoli della provincia, con un territorio di soli 20 chilometri quadrati, nel corso degli ultimi cento e cinquanta anni ha raggiunto una densità abitativa fra le più altre d’Italia ed uno sviluppo industriale irripetibile. Già verso la metà del secolo XIX venne avviata una politica di insediamento industriale con la nascita di uno stabilimento vetraio che occupava ben 850 operai già nel 1868, fra i primi ed i più importanti dell’intero Veneto. Pochi anni più tardi, verso la fine del secolo XIX, la realizzazione di una strada ferrata che lo poneva in comunicazione diretta con Verona, ma soprattutto la realizzazione di alcune centrali idroelettriche, localizzate sul territorio comunale, successive alla realizzazione dei Canali Milani e Marazza, garantivano facilità di commercio ed energia in quantità ad un prezzo invidiabile. Il secolo XX ha visto la collocazione crescente di imprese che hanno portato San Giovanni Lupatoto ad essere il primo fra i comuni industrializzati del’intera provincia. Fabbriche importanti, come la Filanda, la Saifecs, La Manifattura Festi Rasini, il Ricamificio Automatico, la Barite, le varie Concerie, le fabbriche di scaldabagni Idropi, ICI, Sime, ecc, hanno attratto manovalanze da tutto il territorio veronese concentrando a San Giovanni maestranze di qualità che qui trovavano un adeguato impiego ed un sicuro reddito. Si è quindi assistito ad un rapido e costante aumento della popolazione che negli ulti due secoli si è decuplicata. Con la crisi dei sistemi produttivi tradizionali, San Giovanni ha saputo essere ancora fra i primi a dimostrare capacità di innovazione e riconversione, per cui si può affermare che non è mai stata in crisi la piena occupazione.
Proprio la valenza in assoluto del fenomeno della industrializzazione a San Giovanni Lupatoto, il dispiegarsi di un numero così elevato di attività produttive, hanno costituito materia di studio e di ricerca.

LA TORRE DELLA CONCERIA
La cache si trova nel luogo dove sorgeva una delle più grosse concerie di San Giovanni Lupatoto di proprietà della famiglia Rizzi. La posizione è convenientemente molto vicina al Canale Milani, da dove venina prelevata l'acqua necessaria alla lavorazione delle pelli. La fabbrica originale era molto grande e, dopo che ha cessato la produzione, è stata completamente rasa al suolo nel 2002. La foto nel listing testimonia l'imponenza del fabbricato. Della conceria rimane solo come ricordo la ciminiera che svetta nel piazzale del parcheggio di un nuovo supermercato, su cui campeggia l'anno di costruzione: 1947.

Industrialization in San Giovanni Lupatoto
Compared to other municipalities in the entire province of Verona, the lupatotino area has shown a unique dynamism in its ability to industrialize. Despite being one of the smallest municipalities in the province, with an area of only 20 square kilometers, over the last hundred and fifty years it has reached a population density among the most other in Italy and an unrepeatable industrial development. Already in the mid-nineteenth century a policy of industrial settlement was initiated with the birth of a glass factory that employed 850 workers as early as 1868, one of the first and most important in the whole of Veneto. A few years later, towards the end of the nineteenth century, the construction of a railway that put it in direct communication with Verona, but above all the construction of some hydroelectric plants, located in the municipal area, following the construction of the Milani and Marazza canals, they guaranteed ease of trade and plenty of energy at an enviable price. The twentieth century saw the growing location of companies that led San Giovanni Lupatoto to be the first among the industrialized municipalities of the entire province. Important factories, such as Filanda, Saifecs, Manifattura Festi Rasini, Ricamificio Automatico, Barite, various Tanneries, water heater factories Idropi, ICI, Sime, etc., have attracted laborers from all over the Verona area, concentrating in San Giovanni quality workers who found adequate employment and a secure income here. There has therefore been a rapid and constant increase in the population which in the last two centuries has increased tenfold. With the crisis of traditional production systems, San Giovanni has been able to still be among the first to demonstrate capacity for innovation and reconversion, so it can be said that full employment has never been in crisis. Precisely the absolute value of the phenomenon of industrialization in San Giovanni Lupatoto, the unfolding of such a large number of productive activities, have constituted the subject of study and research producing many studies.

THE TANNERY TOWER
The cache is located in the place where one of the largest tanneries of San Giovanni Lupatoto, owned by the Rizzi family, once stood. The location is convenient, very close to the Milani Canal, from where the water necessary for the processing of hides is taken. The original factory was very large but, after it ceased production, it was completely razed to the ground in the early 2000s. The photo in the listing testifies to the grandeur of the building. Of the tannery remains only as a souvenir the chimney that stands in the square, on which the year of construction stands: 1947
