Geocache Description:

Feliz Geocaching¡

VERSIÓN EN INGLES ( traductor de google)

The “Betlemet” or small Nativity scene is a beautiful corner of Xixona that you will find when you arrive at the "sweetest place in the world" coming from Alicante.

Betlemet en Navidad

The “Betlemet” is located on the "Alicante bridge" that crosses the “Barranc de la Font” and leads into Xixona. Ravine where the water runs all year round thanks to the source of the “Font de la Pineta” and a motor too, when needed. On the opposite side to Betlemet, the ravine has been transformed into a parking lot and a park “El Barranquet”. Barranquet, Betlemet, Geocachet…

From December 8 (Inmaculada's Day) to February 2 (Candelaria's Day) the City Council of Xixona installs in this place a Nativity scene with life-size figures and lighting that make this corner the most photographed in all of Xixona , especially around December 8, which is when the Nougat Fair ends.

Feria turrón

You may be struck by some decorative figures similar to a totem-menhir that are next to the ravine, they are guardians who guard the area throughout the year and are the work of Fernando García Santacruz, known as "Mendoza", Xixonenco who likes to carve the stone.

Totem de Mendoza

Like the Mendoza pieces, there is another figure that also lives in the ravine throughout the year. Although it is much smaller, his mission is the same: Custody "in his way" the geocach you have come to look for. As a clue, he is a typical figure of Catalan nativity scenes.

The surroundings of Betlemet also take center stage around August 24, the festival of San Bartolome, when Moors and Christians invade the area trying to organize themselves for L'ENTRÀ (The Entrance), a triumphal parade that they staged after hearing from the balcony of the “Casa  Pósito” the magic words that they have been waiting for a whole year: “Per Xixona, per San Sebastiá, per Sant Bertomeu, I`Entrá comienza”.

Zona Betlemet en fiestas

Throughout the year, tourists are often seen taking photos or hikers who start the PR – CV 212 route that will take them to Penya Migyorn.

The first section of this path will take you near the Geocach and following the same path to the Castle. Enjoy this beautiful path, possibly walking between the walls of an old canal of medieval origin and a path from the 17th century that was used as an alternative route to enter and exit the walled enclosure of the Xixona at that time.

Cartel del sendero al Castillo

In addition to finding this Geocach, we suggest a short route that starts and ends at Betlemet, which combines 0.75 km of mountain trail and 2 km of urban trail. (Wikilock xixona-betlemet-castle-betlemet).

From the Betlemet to the Geocach you can wear any type of footwear, but if you decide to follow the path to the Castle it is advisable to wear slippers or shoes with the foot well supported because there is a stretch of rock and sometimes even water.

The reward once you arrive at the Castle is to be able to visit it (ask beforehand at the Tourist Office) and the wonderful views of both Xixona and the coast that can be seen perfectly on the horizon.

Afterwards, the pleasure will be in strolling through the old town of Xixona, buying nougat or having an ice cream until you reach Betlemet again.

Betlemet y senda

The geocache is a small sized container that contains the logbook and a pencil.

There are several signs, clues for you to find, please do not take photos to the container. We wait to see photos of this corner, and your coments. Thanks and  happy geocaching ¡
