Gleason, TN is a small, rural town located in Weakley County with a total of 2.24 square miles. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 1369 people. It was first organized as a community in 1850 and was known as Oakwood (named because of an oak tree near the general store). By 1861 it had its first completed railroad and was incorporated as the town of Gleason in 1871. It was named Gleason in honor of Mr. W.W. Gleason, a prominent businessman. By 1889 Gleason had four saloons, a blacksmith shop, a lodge, two hotels, two tobacco houses, three churches, and five stores. It is referred to as Tater Town in honor of the large part sweet potatoes played in industry.
