The village of Polhena is a popular place for locals to have their weddingparty. Polhena Beach is a beach that is also popular with locals. Hopefully the gasoline crisis will soon be over and busloads of schoolchildren will again unload at this beach. For tourist it is really fun to watch local beachlife which is so much different from western beachlife. Here most people arent able to swim and they dont like to lay in the sun. But they play! adults bury eachother unther sand and make living towers of people in the see and much more fun.
The beach is also a nice place for tourists. You can swim here, there are no waves as with so many Sri Lankan beaches, since the beach is protected from that by the 4 km long coral reef.
You can do guided snorkling and you really should stay in this village at least one night and do just that. Guided snorkling! because you can swim with the turtles and feed them. You can see colourful fish and the coral reef. It is really beautiful.
There are seaturtles and there are landturtles. And at this geocache the owner of the house Sunil has a land turtle for a pet. After locating the cache you can ask to see it.
The cache is in Sunils yard. Sunil lives at the end of the alley. If his blue gate is not open, you can open it yourself and may search for the cache in his yard. 29, 2nd cross road, Polhena.
Sunil can tell you all about this area. He can arrange guided snorkling for you and all sort of excursions in the region. Also in his graden there is a map of the area and there is one photo of a small blond boy with a snake around his neck :) That is Wiene, my now 13 year old son. Cause we are coming to this village for years.
Enjoy!
