[NL, English below] Tot 1954 lag ongeveer op deze plek de gemeentelijke bad- en zweminrichting. Dit openluchtbad werd geopend in 1880 en bestond uit een badhuis (nog aanwezig in de kleine Badstraat), een betaald gedeelte en een gratis toegankelijk deel, het loez'nbad genoemd. Hiervoor was een aparte toegang pal langs het spoor waar het op zomerse dagen erg druk was. (Zie foto). Met de opening van het zwembad de Papiermolen werd dit bad gesloten en verkocht aan tabaksfabriek Theodorus Niemeyer die er jaren lang opslagruimtes had. Begin jaren negentig werd het terrein verkocht aan de gemeente en bouwde Niemeyer er een kantoor. Inmiddels is dit kantoor een jongerenhuisvesting geworden, maar niet zo goedkoop als ooit het loez'nbad. De tabaksfabriek is in 2022 met de productie gestopt.
[ENGLISH] Until 1954 the municipal bathing and swimming accommodation was situated at approx. this location. This open air swimming bath started in 1889 and consisted of a bathhouse (still present in the Kleine Badstraat), a paid section and a free accessible part (nicknamed loez'nbad = lice bath) alongside the railroad track that was very busy on sunny days (see picture below).
After the new bath the Papiermolen opened this bath was closed and sold to tobacco factory Theodorus Niemeyer who created large storage buildings on the site. In the early nineties the area was reclaimed by the city and the tobacco factory built an office here. A few years ago the office was sold and converted to apartments for young people. The price for these is significantly higher than the cost of loez'nbad access.
The tobacco factory has stopped production in 2022.
