[IT] Sant'Erasmo è un'isola della laguna Veneta settentrionale, la seconda per estensione dopo Venezia. Si trova al centro di un ideale triangolo formato da Murano, Burano e Punta Sabbioni.
Appartiene alla municipalità di Venezia-Murano-Burano del comune di Venezia e la popolazione residente ammonta a meno di 600 unità in progressiva diminuzione.
Da sempre l'isola conserva una vocazione agricola, per questo viene considerata l’Orto di Venezia. Il carciofo violetto di Sant'Erasmo è una varietà di carciofo incluso tra i prodotti agroalimentari tradizionali italiani. Tenero, carnoso, allungato, spinoso e dalle bratte violette, si coltiva nella laguna di Venezia, in particolare su quest'isola. Se raccolto precocemente viene chiamato “castraura”.
Sparsi nell’isola si possono trovare alcuni Cippi di conterminazione lagunare, istituiti con decreto del Senato della Repubblica Veneta nel 1791 con lo scopo di definire una precisa delimitazione fisica fra ciò che era Laguna e ciò che Laguna non era. Nel 1991, dopo 2 secoli, venne abrogato il decreto in quando di dovette prendere atto delle sensibili variazioni territoriali avvenute soprattutto nel Novecento ovvero: la realizzazione del polo industriale di Porto Marghera e la zona aereoportuale di Tessera. Ad oggi dei 99 cippi si sta perdendo traccia e sono solo cinque quelli ancora sussistenti nell'originaria loro struttura in laterizio; gli altri sono stati rimpiazzati da più durevoli monoliti in pietra d'Istria nel corso dell'Ottocento, soprattutto sotto la dominazione austriaca.
È l'unica isola di Venezia in cui ci si può spostare in macchina, anche se vi consigliamo di noleggiare la bicicletta e di farvi un bel giro panoramico.
[ENG] Sant'Erasmo is an island in the northern Venetian lagoon, the second largest after Venice. It is located in the center of a triangle formed by Murano, Burano and Punta Sabbioni.
It belongs to the municipality of Venice-Murano-Burano of the municipality of Venice and the resident population amounts to less than 600 units in gradual progress.
The island has always retained an agricultural vocation, which is why it is considered the Garden of Venice. The violet artichoke of Sant'Erasmo is a variety of artichoke included among the traditional Italian food products. Scattered around the island you can find some lagoon contermination stones, established by decree of the Senate of the Venetian Republic in 1791 with the aim of defining a precise imitation between what was Laguna and what Laguna was not. In 1991, after 2 centuries, the decree was repealed as it was necessary to take note of the significant territorial changes that occurred especially in the twentieth century, namely: the construction of the industrial center of Porto Marghera and the airport area of Tessera. To date of the 99 cippi we are losing track and there are only five that still exist in their original brick structure; the others were replaced by more durable monoliths in Istrian stone during the nineteenth century, especially under the Austrian domination.
It is the only island of Venice where you can travel by car, although we recommend that you rent a bicycle and take a nice panoramic tour.
