Iddles Lane
Iddles Lane features a mural that depicts the generations of the Iddles family to celebrate the achievements of the siblings Ron and Barry and hopefully attract more tourists to support the region.
Ron Iddles OAM APM has became the most successful Detective in the Victorian Police Force (with a conviction rate of 99 percent) and his twin brother Barry, an international chef, has forged a following with his popular catering businesses and numerous restaurants located in Victoria’s Alpine Resort Falls Creek, Queenscliff and Cranbourne.
Ron, Nancy and Barry’s parents were very well respected members of the Rochester community. Bill was a farmer growing wheat and sheep. He switched to dairy farming and when he retired from the land he became a grader driver for the shire.
Rochester’s Iddles Lane has come to life under the hand of artist Tim Bowtell who has painted the story of the Rochester-born former homicide detective and his family.
Rochester Business Network president Glenda Nichol, with the cooperation of the Iddles family, spent months researching for the content of the mural, determined to portray not only Ron’s career achievements, but to illustrate his outstanding character traits which has earnt him the respect of both victims and criminals. His serious “police’ face is his trademark, but we also wanted to show the relaxed, smiling family man and for visitors who have not heard of Ron Iddles, to read the wall and learn why he is known as Australia’s Greatest Detective.
