In 1935, a group of young people from the youth movement HaNoar HaOved were sent to the lands of "Kuskus-Tivon" to form a group of shepherds, to work the land and establish a new kibbutz in the Yizrael Valley.
The group lived in two places, in Kuskus and Sheikh Abreik. This situation caused many difficulties in organization and caused conflicts between the group members.
In January 1938, the Kuskus lands were plowed, in a big operation of many tractors that came from all around the northern settlements. The same year the group members moved to their permanent location, to Tel Katzkatz, which was built as a Tower and Stockade (Homa Umigdal) settlement, today in the final location of Kibbutz Alonim.
On July 11, 1938, Alexander Zeid was assassinated on his way from Sheikh Abrik to the assembly in Kuskus.
In the years before the state of Israel, the kibbutz served as a base for the Palmach headquarters, for the Arab department of the Palmach and for Haganah courses.
New settlements in the area began in the second half of the 1930s, when Kiryat-Haroshet, Elroy and Kiryat-Amal were founded by Shikun Ovdim. About ten years later, in 1947, thoser settlements were united and founded the town Kiryat Tivon
In the late 1950s, engineers who came from Poland were housed in asbestos barracks on this hill, and thus Kuskus Hill became the Academic’s Hill (Givat HaAcadema'im) and part of Kiryat Tivon.
