Hattiesburg GeoTour
With more than 40 geocache hides to find, Hattiesburg offers one of only 100 active official GeoTours worldwide. Presented by VisitHATTIESBURG, the Hattiesburg GeoTour is the first of its kind in Mississippi. Locate a minimum of 35 of the GeoTour caches and turn in your completed passport to receive your official Hattiesburg GeoTour Geocoin!
Cache Location
The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum is the state’s largest collection of historic military artifacts from the early 19th century to present and honors the servicemen and women of all branches from Mississippi and others who received training in Mississippi during times of war. It aims to amplify the whispers of the unsung heroes. The Museum's seven exhibits tell the personal stories of American heroes and serves to educate future generations about the price paid for freedom and prosperity. Admission is free and visitors are welcome to go on a self-guided tour anytime during regular business hours. Free guided tours and group tours are also available. It is located inside Camp Shelby and open five days a week to the public. Stop by and see Mississippi's unbreakable spirit of service.
The Hide
The cache is a swag-filled ammo can hidden INSIDE and with special permission from the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby. The base is open 24/365, but the museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and closed on Sunday and Monday. A valid drivers license or other photo ID is required to enter the base, and currently there is a requirement to register in addition to showing your ID. Visit the Visitor's Center to the right of the entrance gate prior to pulling up to the gate. There are several other caches on base, and the museum is certainly worth a couple of extra minutes completing the one-time registration process to enter.
*If you don't time your trip to Camp Shelby well and the museum is closed, there's a nearby bonus cache (GCA2T3C) where you can obtain the Code Word for the Hattiesburg GeoTour passport. You can only log the cache(s) that you find and sign the physical log, but you have two chances to complete your passport for Tanks a Lot!
