Saaren nimi ’Likokanta’ viittaa paikkaan, jossa pellavia on liotettu vedessä ennen pellavien muokkausta. Liotuksessa pellavat asetettiin painojen alle veteen 2–3 viikoksi, minkä aikana puumaisen varsi alkoi pehmetä ja kuidut irtosivat helpommin.
