The legend has it two famous horses live at the stables near here. Their names are Peabody and Rainbow! At least, these are the names we gave the horses when our kid was little and we would drive by and wave. They are famous in their own way--they are retired thoroughbred race horses.
TRF (Thoroughbread Retirement Foundation) helps save these retired horses from being slaughtered after their "job has been done" by providing them with homes. They have 19 facilities across the country. Eight are “TRF Second Chances Program” farms which are located at state correctional facilities where inmates participate in a vocational training program in equine care and stable management. On May 14, 2009 the TRF Second Chances Farm at Central Maryland Correctional Facility here in Sykesville opened its doors.
