Geocache Description:

It's Showtime is a series of Multi caches highlighting the many showgrounds and agricultural shows around Victoria.

The cache is NOT at the posted co-ordinates. It is however the beginning of your showgrounds journey. This cache might be found quite some distance from where it began.

It's Showtime #3 - Geelong

Founded in 1855, the Royal Geelong Agricultural & Pastoral Society Inc aims to encourage and promote excellence in Agriculture, Business, Cultural and Community activities in the Geelong region. The first showgrounds site was in East Geelong, and moved in October 1891 to a new location where a 40 metre long wooden grandstand was located.

In 1907, the showgrounds were once again moved, this time to their current home. In the same year, the grandstand (weighing 100 tonnes) was transported to the new site where it remained up until the early 1990s.

The Royal Geelong Show, Geelong Classic Truck and Machinery Show and the Inter-School Horse Competition are just some of the events held annually at the showgrounds.

The Royal Geelong Show is a four day annual event finishing on the third Sunday in October.

The Cache

WP1 S38 10.118 E144 22.361

You should find yourself standing in front of one of the gates to the showground.

  • A = Number of narrow yellow gates (pedestrian sized)
  • B = Number of wide yellow gate sections (car sized)

WP2 S38 10.295 E144 22.339

A short walk away you will find yourself at the main entrance and administation area. You are looking for a red letterbox:

  • C = Number of H's on the silver plate
  • D = Number of letters in the first word plus two
  • F = Number of letters in the word immediately above the last blue number
  • G = Number of A's on the silver plate
  • H = First blue number minus one
  • J = Number of Y's on the silver plate

Using the information above, calculate WP3. This is likely to be some distance away.

WP3 S37 AC.HBF E145 CF.GJD  Checksum S28 E32

You will be near a large metal structure with a plaque nearby. Using the plaque:

  • KLMN = Year this structure was unveiled
  • P = N+M-C
  • Q = H+L+B
  • R = D-F+N
  • T = M+K

GZ S37 KR.JPQ E145 LN.TNL   Checksum S34 E23

You are looking for a screw top container. Parking can be found approximately 95m south of GZ near the entry gate to the property. The difficulty rating reflects the time involved in reaching the final. The actual cache hide is a D1.5.

NOTEWhilst it may not look it, this cache is in fact placed on public council land with permission. A fencing upgrade occurred after placement which resulted in a now locked gate and the omission of an easily accessible pedestrian gate. Despite this, Whittlesea Council has confirmed the land remains public land, albeit now having a slight additional hurdle.

We have chosen locations for caches where it is safe to pull off the road within a short distance of GZ. Under NO circumstance should driveways and gates be blocked or used for parking. With nearby property owners in mind, these geocaches have been placed out of view and away from private residences, so as not to cause alarm. Please be mindful of the local community, and have a friendly chat with them if they stop by.
