Cache is set at the shaft / rock house of the Hecla Mine #12 shaft.
Edwin Hulbert, while surveying the military road from Fort Wilkins to Fort Atkinson (central WI) found an old Indian mining pit full of copper. Acquired the land and the Calumet Mine started. Shortly after, the Hecla Mine started to the south. Combined to form C&H, with the 5 Calumet shafts north of Red Jacked Rd. and the 8 Hecla shafts to the south.
