Vest Pocket Park

The land for Vest Pocket park was originally an old house, however, when the Jewish Nursing home expanded, it had some extra land that they did not need, so decided to give the land to the Town. The town used the to recreate the Cornelius Holdrum house, a house that had been near the Country club previously but had to be moved. In due time, it was dismantled and the parts of the house given to the Bergen County Historical Society. In the early 2000s plans were made to ring the house back on the same piece of land and use it as a small museum and office space for the town. However, it was greatly opposed by neighbors and the cost of restoring it to its original appearance was too high, so the plan was canceled. The town eventually decided to use the plot as a location to commemorate the River Vale’s emergency services, police, and fire department. Soon after, the 9/11 memorial was also placed there to commemorate those who fell in service during that tragic event.
