Another geocache highlight exposed Eugene streetcar history. I wish my home city of Salem, which had a larger streetcar system, still had so many exposed remnants of its system.
A few years they were repaving 18th St. When they got to University St, they had ground down the pavement and exposed the old Fairmont Streetcar line tracks. Instead of covering them over, they left them exposed. It is quite obvious streetcar tracks continued in either direction on University when you look at the pavement. I'd love if they exposed the great, strung some trolley wire, and started running streetcars again. The last one ran on these rails in 1927. The streetcar image above is from Eugene, signed for the Fairmont Line.
This cache complements my other nearby cache on Columbia Street, which looks like the track ran into a telephone pole. I also have two streetcar caches on Willamette street, which was part of a different streetcar line.
This cache qualifies for the Disappearing RR Blues bonus cache. This series highlights the railways of NW Oregon
