My journey began on a cold dark night, a full moon illuminating the track ahead of me, bats were darting between the trees above my head but it was the occasional rustling in the hedgerow that set the hairs on my neck tingling. I'd heard the tales of the brobdingnagian vermicious knid who supposedly hunts in this area and until tonight I'd dismissed them as folklore....that was until I saw the bright red eyes in my flickering torchlight peering out of the dead oak tree just about 500m back at the junction of the road and this track. They had blinked once before vanishing with a rustle up the tree and into the branches. Freaked out I'd run from there, but I'd not gone far when I heard a great crash as a huge branch broke away from the trunk and landed right where I had been walking, I'd glimpsed something green and shiny slink away into the hedgerow at which point I turned on my heels and sprinted as fast as I could northwards away from there!
Now my pace eases as my legs are weary but I can't shift the feeling of being watched....or maybe stalked! Is my mind playing tricks on me? Is that bush really swaying.. when there's no breeze at all!
I keep on moving as quickly as I can I want to get as far from here as possible...I have a mission to complete before dawn. I have been entrusted by the Ev1l one to deliver a vial of diacatholicon to the All mighty Digby before the sun rises.
I carry on up the hill tired but fueled with adrenaline my feet keep going up and up. The track ends at a kissing gate into the churchyard I welcome the solace I feel among the graves but there's still that niggling feeling.....something is still out there....I stop in the church doorway to catch my breath and take a moment to rest hoping I can't be seen here. I bend down to remove a thorn from my sock and I don't see or hear it coming....it's got me ....I'm being carried ....7 feet off the ground....it's running fast.....faster than I could imagine such a strange beast could run...we pass a tiny building and I launch the vial towards the corner of the roof.....I hope I can get back to it.....I don't want the brobdingnagian vermicious knid to have it.... it could be disastrous in the wrong hands!
